Waklert 150 mg is a medicine classified under “eugeroics. The chemical formula of armodafinil is C15H15NO2S. Armodafinil (R-Modafinil), along with its enantiomer S-Modafinil, forms the popular wakefulness drug Modafinil. Enantiomers are the same chemical compounds with slightly different molecular structures. Waklert 150 tablet promotes wakefulness to keep you awake. It help to reduce excessive daytime sleepiness caused by narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder.
Armodafinil was approved by the US FDA in 2007 to treat sleeping disorders like narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder. It helps battle daytime sleepiness, drowsiness, and laziness and promotes wakefulness. Research on armodafinil has revealed that it can enhance cognitive abilities. Hence, it is also marketed as a “smart drug”.
Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness. The individual cannot stay awake for long periods of time. They tend to suddenly fall asleep. Other symptoms are- sleep paralysis, hallucinations, changes in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, fatigue, sudden loss of muscle (cataplexy), etc. There is no absolute cause of narcolepsy. Possible reasons include lifestyle, hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, obesity, etc.
A person suffering from OSA has irregular breathing patterns while sleeping. They suddenly stop and resume breathing several times in their sleep. The person might wake up suddenly due to breathlessness. This happens because the throat muscles supporting the soft tissue in the mouth relax. Hence, they block the airways while sleeping. Other symptoms of OSA are- loud snoring, morning headaches, insomnia at night, daytime sleepiness, drowsiness, irritability, etc.
Shift work sleep disorder affects the circadian rhythm, i.e., the biological clock of the body. This disorder is observed in people who: 1) work night shifts; and 2) work outside the traditional 9–5 time range. Major symptoms are insomnia and daytime sleepiness at unwanted hours. These individuals also suffer from headaches, fatigue, low productivity, lack of concentration, etc.
All the above-listed disorders are chronic and have no absolute cure. These are treated by a combination of lifestyle changes, sleep therapies, and medication. Waklert 150mg is used to treat the symptoms, not the underlying disorders themselves.
Off-label diseases treated by Waklert 150 mg include ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Chronic fatigue disorder, etc. It is also used for the treatment of some psychiatric disorders, like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
The patient can take the missed dose as soon as they remember it. However, they should not take the missed dose if it is close to the timing of the next dose. They should not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
If a patient has an overdose, they must immediately contact their doctor or call emergency services. The following are the symptoms of an overdose:
Waklert 150mg contains Armodafinil works on the neurons present in the brain. It binds to the dopamine transporter (DAT). This causes the levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine to increase in the brain. Dopamine is responsible for feelings of happiness, pleasure, alertness, motivation, movement, and language. Armodaphinil binds weakly to DAT, which makes it more clinically significant. Thus, upon consuming Armodafinil, people feel alert and awake. It is excellent for battling unwanted drowsiness and sleepiness.
Following are the side effects of Waklert 150mg. It is advised to immediately inform the doctor if the patient experiences any of these side effects.
Patients must inform their doctors if they observe any skin rashes or discolorations after consuming Waklert 150mg. Skin and mouth sores, blisters, and ulcers are important symptoms. These may indicate Steven-Johnson Syndrome (SJS), Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), or multi-organ hypersensitivity. The doctor can identify any of these complications. These complications require immediate hospitalization and can be extremely serious.
There is a possibility that the patient may simply be allergic to armodaphinil or any of the inactive ingredients. Hives, swelling of the face, tongue, eyes, and lips, difficulty breathing, rashes, etc. are important symptoms of an allergic reaction. Patients must immediately inform their doctors if they observe any of these signs.
Common cardiac side effects consist of chest pain, an increased heartbeat, and breathlessness. Blood pressure levels may also rise.
If patients are suffering from or have a history of any of the given health conditions, the doctor must take special precautions.
It is advised that Waklert 150mg should not be prescribed to patients with a history of left ventricular hypertrophy and mitral valve prolapse. One of the side effects of Waklert 150mg is increased blood pressure. Hence, doctors are advised to regularly monitor the blood pressure of hypertension patients taking Waklert 150mg. Doctors must also be careful while prescribing this drug to anyone suffering from/having a history of heart disease.
Patients must inform the doctor if they have any allergies. Doctors are advised not to prescribe Waklert 150mg to patients who are allergic to Modafinil.
Doctors must consider any psychiatric issues of the patients before prescribing Waklert 150mg. They must give special attention to patients with a history of mania, depression, suicidal thoughts, and aggression.
The active ingredient, armodafinil, is metabolised in the liver. Hence, doctors are advised to give a lower dose of Waklert 150mg to patients with hepatic (liver) complications.
Doctors should also exercise caution if this drug is to be given to a patient with kidney issues.
Waklert 150mg MUST NOT be consumed with the following substances, as it has a severe interaction.
Apart from these, Waklert 150mg may have mild to moderate reactions with some other substances. Hence, patients must inform the doctor if they are consuming any kind of substance.
Armodafinil is known to have food interactions with the foods given below. Patients must not consume these foods while taking Waklert 150 mg.

Common side effects of Waklert 150mg are headaches, dizziness, nausea, and insomnia. However, patients must immediately inform the doctor if they experience skin rashes/discoloration, chest pain, difficulty in breathing, etc.
Waklert 150 mg must be swallowed whole with water. It must not be crushed, chewed, or broken.
There is no scientific data about the effect of Armodafinil on pregnant/lactating women. Hence, pregnant or lactating women should not consume Waklert 150 mg tablets.
Waklert 150mg has a low potential for abuse and addiction. However, it is a brain stimulant. Hence, patients must use it in a controlled manner as per the doctor’s prescription.
